Telstra launches $1bn 3G mobile network
The Australian
TELSTRA has launched a $1 billion NEXT G mobile broadband network, offering high-speed wireless mobile and internet access to 98 per cent of Australians. NEXT G, which boasts 12 channels of Foxtel television, sport and movie downloads, is more than 100 times bigger geographically and up to five times faster than any other 3GSM network in Australia. Telstra says the launch will help it claim leadership in the third generation, or 3G market, by May next year.

Mobile communications are transforming every aspect our our lives from how we capture images of our friends and family through to how we organise our lives on the run. While many analysts predict a bright future for mobile content services, many others are far more skeptical. Will people embrace news on the run delivered by new high speed 3G networks or are we too wedded to the modes of news we get now?

Paul Green from Ericsson and the Telstra Service Delivery Platform team talks about mobile content and news. How is mobile content going to change once consumers take up richer 3G services? What kind of impact will this have on content production for these services?

 

 


Biography

Paul Green is the Technical Content Manager for Ericsson Australia and is currently working on a new platform for the delivery of Telstra's mobile content. He is also undertaking a Masters of Communications here at Swinburne.
